Acclaimed Christchurch chef Simon Levy is set to partner with Auckland hospitality icon Sid Sahrawat for a special one-off event.

For one night only, on Friday 31 October, Christchurch culinary star Simon Levy of INATI heads north to team up with Auckland hospitality heavyweight Sid Sahrawat for a special shared feast at The French Café.

This marks Levy’s first-ever Auckland collaboration - and who better to partner with than Sahrawat? The two chefs, now fast friends, are bringing their camaraderie into the kitchen to co-create a one-off menu featuring a mix of surprises and fan favourites - including INATI’s renowned duck trumpet.

“We’ve been talking about this for a while”, said Sahrawat.

“And our diaries finally aligned. INATI is a must-visit for me every time I’m in Christchurch, and I’m looking forward to having some fun in the kitchen with Simon”.

Levy says he can’t wait to showcase his menu at The French Café. “I’m super excited on a personal and professional level to cook with one of New Zealand’s finest chefs at such an iconic restaurant and bring a little taste of INATI to Auckland”.

The evening features four snacks and four courses (NZD 195 per person), with two snacks and two dishes from each chef. True to the spirit of INATI,  meaning “to share” in te reo Māori,  selected courses will be served family-style, celebrating connection, generosity, and togetherness.

Levy and wife Lisa chose to open a restaurant that is an extension of their home, inviting guests in to relax at the chef’s table by sharing food, wine and conversation in a fun way. INATI in Christchurch offers seasonally inspired tasting plates alongside “middle of the table” large plates for sharing with good company, inspired by Earth, Land and Sea.

“I really enjoy creating dishes for the Earth section. Often when a guest eats one of these plates, they don’t realise there’s no meat contained nor do they miss it,” he said.

Levy added that he finds inspiration everywhere, be it taking his children to the dairy, meeting a new grower, foraging, and reminiscing on childhood memories.
