The Boundary Restaurant and Bar's liquor licence application has been approved, whilst an associated wine shop's licence application has been denied.
The Waikato District Licensing Committee released its decision following hearings that transgressed April to June concerning the Devine Rd business, which can seat up to 420 people.
The licence for the restaurant and bar also applies to the Forever Bound Café next door.
The licences allows The Boundary to open 11am-10pm seven days a week, Forever Bound 8am-4pm, and common areas to the establishments 8am-10pm. Alcohol can only be sold to diners, which is limited to approximately 300.
The bottle store's application was declined for several reasons under the council's Local Alcohol Policy, including close proximity to Tamahere School, Lil Pumpkins Daycare, Tamahere Park and the Four Square bottle shop just 40m away.
The committee also considered concerns about the nuisance, litter and disorderly behaviour already plaguing Tamahere Village.
The committee acknowledged that a bottle shop would not improve and could worsen this behaviour.
The application was for a ‘wine shop’, described as a boutique shop selling premium products. However, the company also operates a bottle shop in Auckland, Super Liquor Mangere, and was applying for another licence for a Super Liquor franchise in Pukekohe.
