When the Industry Agrees the System Is Broken

Spirits NZ welcomes the release of the Ministry of Regulation’s Better Regulation of the Hospitality Sector review.

“The review is a significant piece of work which has shone a light on what many in the industry have understood for years – that the regulations governing hospitality are getting in the way of a healthy, sustainable sector,” said Spirits NZ CEO and World Spirits Alliance President, Robert Brewer.

“In particular the review has found that the alcohol regulatory system is not functioning effectively, efficiently, or proportionately, and that its design and daytoday practice impose unnecessary costs on hospitality businesses,” said Brewer.

“The nine recommendations relating to the alcohol regulatory system are a positive step forward as they not only acknowledge some of the systemic failings of the current system but propose realisable solutions.

“We commend Minister Seymour for his commitment to addressing regulatory red tape getting in the way of better business and look forward to seeing the recommendations in the report progressed.”
