Affy Chapman, Piha Site Manager of Brothers Beer & Juke Joint BBQ, is a true local of the North Shore, having lived there since she was seven years old. When she's not hitting the books with her paramedicine studies, Affy spends her summers bartending at the Piha Surf Club Restaurant, now known as Brothers Beer & Juke Joint BBQ.
With a passion for community and agile work, she fell in love with bartending when she first started at the Piha Surf Club Restaurant. When Brothers Beer & Juke Joint BBQ took over, Chapman wanted to continue her pleasures of working at the bar.
“My family moved to Piha almost three years ago, so I went around to the local businesses that were hiring to find a job for the summer and found the Piha Surf Club Restaurant,” explained Chapman.
“I really enjoyed it because it’s social and active, so since then, I’ve come back each summer, and when Brothers Beer took over, I wanted to stick to my roots and asked for a job!”
As a bartender, Chapman understands what makes an inviting beer. She sees hazy IPAs and craft lagers as the current flavour trends, and her go-to recommendation for a new customer is a locally brewed craft lager or a classic margarita. For her, a refreshing and icy cold drink is vital, especially in the summer heat.
When Chapman is not working as a bartender, she enjoys reading, visiting her local pub, and playing hockey. Although she's not too familiar with the craft spirit scene, she's excited to see what local products may come through.
Brothers Beer & Juke Joint BBQ is located in the heart of South Beach in Piha and offers craft beer, local wines, cocktails, traditional BBQ and shared plates. The elevated site features a bright open bar and restaurant with a deck perfect for watching the waves and sunsets over the black sand beach. With eight craft beer taps, local wines, and classic cocktails, it's the ideal place for a post-swim tipple or to settle in while on holiday.
The food offering features traditional BBQ, shared plates, and Piha-exclusive offerings such as Brothers Beer-battered Fish and Chips and a classic Wagyu Beef and Cheeseburger.
