Mad Mex to Give Away 80,000 Burritos

Mexican QSR chain, Mad Mex, has committed to providing a burrito to each of the 80,000 entrants of the 2023 City2Surf fun run, provided the male, female, or elite wheelchair record is broken.

The men’s running record was set by Steve Moneghetti in 1991, which currently stands at 40.03 minutes. In 2019, the record was only two seconds shy of being broken by Australian runner, Harry Summer. Susie Power set the women's record in 2001, running a record 45.08 minutes, and Kurt Fearnley set the elite wheelchair record in 2016.

A popular running event every year, the City2Surf competition will commence nearby Mad Mex’s popular restaurant on Crown Street in Sydney, which opened in 2007. The restaurant was also the first Mad Mex restaurant in Australia.

Mad Mex founder, Clovis Young, said if someone manages to beat a record, this will be the biggest burrito giveaway in history.

“With this challenge, we’re both throwing down the gauntlet and showing our support for outstanding performance on the line. If a record’s broken on Sunday, it’ll cost us…but we’re putting our burrito where our mouth is,” said Young.

The offer has been designed to draw people to the company’s understanding that fast food should be better, that simple is good, and that fresh is best.
