Viral app Too Good To Go is now officially available nationwide since its launch in October last year, now including Wellington.
Too Good To Go, the world’s largest marketplace for surplus food, has announced that it is bringing its free-to-use app to Wellington, marking the final phase of its nationwide rollout across New Zealand. The move brings the viral app to every major city and regional centre across the country, including Dunedin, Tauranga, and Hamilton.
Following successful launches in Auckland in October 2025 and Christchurch last month, the Danish-born, certified B-Corp is now scaling its mission to tackle the NZD 3 billion in food waste produced in New Zealand annually. By taking the marketplace nationwide, Too Good To Go is empowering local businesses to recover lost revenue while offering Kiwis high-quality food at a fraction of the price.
Since entering New Zealand and partnering with local hospitality partners, Kiwis have saved over 65,000 meals, saving the CO2e equivalent of driving from Cape Reinga to Bluff almost 270 times, enough water to fill 226,000 baths and preserving the land of approximately 483 tennis courts.
To strengthen its local presence, Too Good To Go has also partnered with New Zealand’s leading national food waste reduction initiatives, Love Food Hate Waste and Kai Commitments, to support ongoing efforts to keep edible food on plates and out of landfills.
Through the free-to-download app, Kiwis purchase a ‘Surprise Bag’ filled with food that would have otherwise gone to waste at a reduced price from nearby bakeries, cafes, restaurants, and grocers. With over 350 partners currently using the app across the country, favourites including Daily Bread, Baker’s Delight, Caffe L'affare, Dough Bakery and Sushi Mall are on board to help fight food waste while attracting new customers.
“Since launching in Aotearoa last year, we’ve seen and felt the passion Kiwis have for the local hospitality sector. Kiwis and local businesses have embraced Too Good To Go’s mission of fighting food waste with open arms, and we can feel the tangible impact we’re already making together, having saved almost 50,000 meals in just six months,” said Joost Rietveld, Country Director of Too Good To Go New Zealand.
“Going nationwide was always our ambition as we continue to meet the overwhelming demand from Kiwis for value-led food options. We’re excited to be connecting people from Wellington to the deep south with great food at affordable prices, one ‘Surprise Bag’ at a time.”
Too Good To Go’s win-win-win model benefits people, profit, and the planet. Local partners generate income from surplus food, Kiwis access quality food at a fraction of the price, offering welcome relief during ongoing financial pressures, and the environment wins through reduced food waste, which currently accounts for 10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions (WWF, 2021).
“Since joining Too Good To Go Aotearoa in October last year, we’ve already saved over 10,000 meals from going to waste. We couldn’t be more excited to carry this partnership nationwide to help our bakeries continue to save good food from ending up in landfill, and give our customers around the country the chance to score our freshly baked goods. We can’t wait to see how many more meals we will save together,” said Scott Randles, Area Manager, Bakers Delight.
