Lamb Weston Oceania Acquires Crackerjack Foods

Crackerjack Foods Australia

Crackerjack Foods, the Australian frozen potato products company, has been acquired by the Oceania division of the US-based firm Lamb Weston.

This strategic purchase enhances Lamb Weston's presence in the Australian foodservice sector, aligning with Crackerjack's core focus. With an estimated annual turnover of approximately AUS$20 million (€18.7 million), Crackerjack Foods operates from Victoria, Australia, and supplies to the national foodservice industry, with a notable reputation for its potato cakes and battered snacks.

In addition to gaining Crackerjack's workforce, Lamb Weston will take ownership of the Australian company's two processing lines in Keilor and Campbellfield, both suburbs of Melbourne. The Campbellfield facility is described as a highly automated and purpose-built facility.

This acquisition expands Lamb Weston Oceania's product range, providing additional options for existing and new customers and reinforcing their business in Australia.

Lamb Weston's strategic acquisition of Crackerjack is linked to the anticipation of substantial growth in the potato cakes and hash browns market, especially in pub dining. Crackerjack is a significant supplier to various establishments, including clubs, pubs, hotels, cafes, and fish and chip shops.

Potato cakes, also known as potato scallops and potato fritters, are widely popular, making this market a valuable segment.

Lamb Weston has shown a strong presence in the Australian market through previous acquisitions, including Marvel Packers in 2018 and Ready Meals in 2019.

The company's exclusive focus on potatoes enables Lamb Weston to deliver high-quality frozen food and frozen potatoes consistently. With its ownership of farmland in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, Lamb Weston fosters knowledge exchange with grower partners worldwide.
