Building on some great foodie hot spots dotted around South Auckland, Derby Square, Auckland’s newest entertainment and eatery precinct, is set to open in March 2024.
Created as a new-build addition to the award-winning and highly accessible Takanini Town Centre, Derby Square will deliver a curated mix of operators focused on quality of experience.
Designed by renowned architects, Ignite, Derby Square blurs the boundaries between how we live, relax and shop, with boutique-style brick buildings opening directly onto vibrant green spaces.
Working closely with the group is award-winning landscape designer, Landlab, who has ensured the town square becomes the focal point for the community, working to provide a flexible activated space for kids to run and play and community events.
Derby Square has already attracted some of the country's top entertainment businesses and eateries, with Silky Otter confirming they will be opening a state-of-the-art boutique eight-theatre cinema, which will open in the congregational town square.
Neil Lambert, Joint Founder and CEO of Silky Otter, said he was excited to be opening the company's first Auckland eight-theatre cinema complex in Derby Square this coming December.
“With luxurious 50-seat auditoriums, Silky Otter will be the place you want to bring your first date to and return to time and time again,” said Lambert.
“The team behind the build has put a lot of thought into the design of the cinema with a full-service kitchen and curated menu set to go, so our guests feel looked after from the moment they enter the foyer to the moment they leave.”
James Kermode, Derby Square’s Project Director, said that this will bring some incredible options to the region of Auckland, which has been starved of quality entertainment and eatery precincts for too long.
“Derby Square has been designed with meticulous detail and a dedication to delivering a quality of experience second to none in our region. Our dedication to quality extends from the architecture down to the food you’ll be served. Bird on a Wire together with Isaac Yu (The Breakfast Club and Bonita) are recent commitments to the project and we will be announcing additional restaurants and entertainment operators shortly,” said Kermode.
With the construction of Derby Square well underway, Kermode added they are seeking like-minded food and beverage operators to join the truly unique and brand-attentive businesses already leasing spaces.
“We’ve got some great eateries and entertainment operators committed and are excited to reveal who will join us for our grand opening in March 2024. There are a few remaining opportunities to join Derby Square, and we want to talk to operators that share our vision of creating a destination of dining and entertainment excellence in South Auckland.”
