KFC Reduces Menu Amid Food Shortages

KFC announced on Twitter that it has reduced its menus nationwide in the UK due to shortages in the supply of food.

The shortage of HGV drivers and the subsequent gap in food and drink deliveries to hospitality businesses has been growing, meaning that this is undoubtedly only the first of many such announcements.

The UK government apparently ignored countless warnings from the UK Road Haulage Association that HGV driver shortages would severely damage the UK supply chain. The Association advised the government that Brexit had caused a shortfall of around 100,000 HGV drivers and that hospitality has a shortfall of around 180,000 people across a variety of positions.

In a similar call to the government as has been seen here in New Zealand, the Association want the government to ease immigration restrictions on EU nationals and other migrant workers with experience of working in the hospitality industry and other sectors including haulage that are similarly suffering.

The Association believes this could be achieved y creating a new visa or exempting non-UK nationals with relevant experience from immigration requirements. Calls from the industry echo our local situation, with the Association saying changes need to be made immediately and that failure to do so guarantees the situation worsening.
