Flavours: Cinnamon

Cinnamon is one of the most popular flavours this time of year, with the use of the spice in everything from hot cross buns to chai lattes.

Obtained from the inner bark of several species of the genus Cinnamomum, Cinnamon is the second most popular spice in Europe and the United States, with the first being black pepper.

Cinnamon has traditionally been traditionally used to treat ailments such as arthritis and sore throats, but has since made its way into baking and culinary dishes, providing a sweet taste.

Baked treats such as cinnamon buns and various slices have been enriched with the flavour of cinnamon, but it has also been a valuable asset to dishes which contain pork (added to apple sauce,) different types of soup (such as butternut squash,) and it has even been used to flavour roast vegetables.
