Yealands has collected an impressive set of accolades at the recent Marlborough Wine Show, having won a range of notable awards.
Yealands Wines have celebrated a successful result at the Marlborough Wine Show, winning three Gold medals for Yealands Estate Single Block L5 Sauvignon Blanc 2024, Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2024 and Yealands Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2024. The Marlborough producer also picked up an additional three Silver medals and one Bronze.
The Trophy results were announced at the Marlborough Wine Show’s Celebration lunch in Blenheim, with Yealands claiming Champion Wine of the Show, Champion Sauvignon Blanc, Champion Awatere and South Marlborough and Wine of Provenance, for the Yealands Estate Single Block L5 2024.
Chief Winemaker Natalie Christensen was excited to receive the news whilst travelling in Galicia, Spain.
"We’ve all been saying that vintage 2024 was a strong contender for our best ever. Winning these trophies and hearing the judges feedback about the high calibre of Marlborough Sauv, this vintage confirms that we were onto something! I can’t wait to get home and celebrate the win with the team," she said.
The judges’ comments on the Trophy-winning Sauvignon Blanc acknowledged the craftsmanship of the wine.
"The winning, single block wine from Yealands Estate is a truly exceptional example of the wine that put our region on the map all those years ago." Chief Judge Stu Marfell.
Christensen is a gifted winemaker with 17 years of experience working in France, Spain, USA and New Zealand, including stints at notable local wineries Saint Clair Family Estate and Matahiwi Estate.
Prior to joining Yealands, Christensen was a Winemaker at La Cana in Rias Baixas, Spain, making albariño for the Jorge Ordonez group. Far from being your average winemaker, she is a classically trained double bass player with a Bachelor of Music from Canterbury University, in addition to a Master of Science and Graduate Diploma in Oenology. Christensen joined the vineyard in 2014 and became Yealands’ Chief Winemaker in 2019.
Yealands Wines launched in August 2008 with the ambition of becoming a world leader in sustainable wine production. In addition to winning numerous international accolades for the quality of its wines, the company’s innovative approach to sustainable wine production has seen the extensive restoration of native vegetation within its vineyards to promote biodiversity and provide a habitat for native birds and insects and the installation and utilisation of renewable energy initiatives.
