Heart of the City’s Restaurant Month returns this August with its most exciting programme yet, which will look to unlock a new era for Auckland city centre’s hospitality community.
From 1 to 31 August, Restaurant Month will once again transform Auckland city centre into a culinary playground, with exclusive menus, one-off chef collaborations, immersive dining experiences and special events taking over the city throughout the month.
Now in its 16th year, Restaurant Month continues to celebrate the chefs, restaurateurs, front-of-house teams and neighbourhood favourites that shape Auckland’s hospitality scene, while shining a light on the new venues and fresh culinary talent bringing energy and innovation to the city centre dining landscape.
Hospitality remains the leading driver of visitation to the city centre, accounting for 40 percent of annual consumer spend. With world-class dining spanning global cuisines, Auckland city centre continues to strengthen its reputation as one of New Zealand’s premier dining destinations.
This year’s programme reflects the way Aucklanders are dining in 2026, with growing demand for immersive experiences, globally inspired flavours and shared dining moments that go beyond just the meal itself.
Joining the lineup this year are How We Eat and Next on the Pass, two new series celebrating Auckland’s evolving dining culture, culinary talent and globally inspired food scene.
How We Eat will explore the traditions, rituals and shared experiences that shape Auckland’s diverse food culture through a range of immersive dining experiences across the month. From Filipino boodle feasts and Korean street food paired with soju, to Ethiopian coffee ceremonies, imperial Chinese banquets and Latin American shared-table celebrations, the series is designed to offer diners cultural experiences that go beyond the plate.
Meanwhile, Next on the Pass, created in partnership with AUT, will pair emerging culinary talent with some of Auckland’s leading chefs and restaurants, showcasing the next generation of hospitality talent. Mentorships are already underway, with students collaborating alongside some of the city’s top kitchens to develop dishes and dining experiences set to feature throughout the programme.
Another new addition to this year’s programme, the Fork & Fame Awards presented by new partner Commercial Bay, will debut as a month-long feature, adding a public-voted element to the event. Diners will be invited to vote for their favourite dishes across a series of curated categories celebrating standout dining experiences throughout the Commercial Bay precinct.
Restaurant Month’s much-loved dining offers will return with exclusive menus across more than 100 venues, priced at NZD 30, NZD 45 and NZD 55+. With the full programme set to be revealed on 1 July, there are further exciting announcements to come, including participating restaurants, events and more.
