Salted Caramel has become one of the most popular flavours internationally, be it in chocolate, on popcorn, or as a flavour of ice cream.

Invented in 1976 by the French pastry chef Henri Le Roux in Quiberon, Salted Caramel has become a mainstream ingredient, popular mainly in baking and sweet treats.

Salted caramel has gained consumer popularity in the past 10 years, and from 2015-2020, Salted Caramel grew in popularity by 105 percent globally.

In beverages, Salted Caramel is a common ingredient in cafés, restaurants, and coffee shops internationally. Such menu items as frappes, milkshakes, and flavoured coffee will almost definitely have a Salted Caramel option. 

In regard to desert options, salted caramel has made its way to become a flavour in dishes such as crème brulee, as well as becoming a topping for ice cream sundaes, and flavoured pretzels. Salted Caramel is also a popular addition to specific ingredients such as peanut butter and cinnamon.
