Meet The Barista | Camilo Kirong, Black & White Coffee

With an eighteen-year background and experience in nursing, Camilo Kirong has been a district nurse in Christchurch for the past eight years. Having witnessed numerous triumphs and struggles, Kirong has learned to cherish every moment of life and embrace its offerings.

His love for coffee began in 2018 when he stumbled upon the High Street Black and White Coffee House. He took my wife and sisters-in-law to the café, which started his coffee journey.

Despite being a small establishment, Black and White Coffee prides itself on the unique innovation of roasting coffee beans in-house and serving food that complements its brews.

Its goal is to give customers a memorable experience by providing them with the best coffee and cuisine.

“The most rewarding part of my job is greeting, meeting, and serving people in person,” said Kirong. “It is an honour to be able to interact with our customers every day and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the café”.

According to Kirong, a great cup of coffee should be lively, tasteful, and strong, and while coffee preferences are subjective, a good cup of coffee should provide comfort from the first sip to the last drop.

“My go-to coffee order is a long black to kickstart my mornings. On my days off, I enjoy spending time with my family and indulging in a good cup of coffee.”

Kirong was grateful to work with the wonderful café family and extended his heartfelt appreciation to the customers for their continued support.
