Meet The Barista | Matt Ross, Mount Zion Coffee

Matt Ross has been in the coffee industry for eight years and has much experience. For the past three years, he has been the head barista and owner of Mount Zion Coffee, a specialty coffee shop in Tauranga.

The specialty coffee scene in Auckland sparked his passion for coffee, and he was immediately drawn to the welcoming and tight-knit community. He loves the endless possibilities coffee offers, as each coffee is unique and behaves differently when brewed.

Mount Zion Coffee offers an extensive range of single-origin coffees for espresso and filter brewing methods sourced from renowned roasters across New Zealand. The leading roaster used there is Grey Roasting Co.

Ross finds great joy in connecting with his customers and getting to know them and their preferences. For him, coffee is all about building connections and cultivating relationships.

When asked about his favourite coffee, Ross admitted that it was a tricky question, but he tended to drink more filtered coffee. However, he enjoys indulging in an espresso whenever he visits a good coffee shop.

Spending quality time with his family outside of coffee brings him the most joy and fulfilment.
