Zeelandt Brewery Make Full Recovery from Cyclone

Five months after the devastating effects of Cyclone Gabrielle, craft beermakers, Zeelandt Brewery, is back in full production. Head brewer at Zeelandt Brewery, Christopher Barber, said that it was very pleasing to announce that the core range was back in full production, and was available to order. The company is also using a contract brewing partner after the destruction of its brewery in Eskdale.

“Contract brewing will continue for the time being as it allows us to work on other aspects of the business, including looking for premises in Hawke’s Bay,” said Barber.

The brewery has launched two seasonal limited-release beers as well. Brunhilde’s Fate, named after a female character from ancient Germanic Legend, is a medium-body smooth lager with a rich, creamy head. Malty, toasty richness, with balanced beechwood smoke flavour and a dry finish.

The Kaiser Garcia is a 5.1 percent larger, medium boiled with a gentle creaminess. The Kaiser Garcia is a German Beer with Mexican influence, and made from malted maize.

Barber said the brewery’s cyclone fundraising beer, ‘Back on the Horse’ was a huge success.

“Thank you to our customers and suppliers who got behind us and lent their support. We’re in the final stages of collecting all the proceeds from this beer, and shortly we’ll be distributing proceeds to Bay View Volunteer Fire Brigade, Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter, and the Bay View Community Trust.”
