Would you like faeces with that?

McDonald’s is in the poo after it was found that every single screen tested in a survey contained traces of human faeces. The investigation covered eight restaurants in the UK and found that every screen contained coliforms, common bacteria found in faecal matter.

The study was carried out by the London Metropolitan University, and research lead Dr Paul Matawele said that it was clear that the screens weren’t cleaned enough.

"We were all surprised how much gut and faecal bacteria there was on the touchscreen machines. These cause the kind of infections that people pick up in hospitals," Dr Matawele said. "It starts around people's noses; if they touch their nose with their fingers and then transfer it to the touch screen someone else will get it.”

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said that the screens were "cleaned frequently throughout the day".

"All of our restaurants also provide facilities for customers to wash their hands before eating," the spokesperson explained.
