Standing Out in the Market with New ‘Taste the Wild’ Campaign

The Australian Wild Prawn industry has united to differentiate Australian Wild Prawns on the strengths of taste - pure flavour that can only be found in nature – by launching the Australian Wild Prawns ‘Taste the Wild” brand.

Australian Council of Prawn Fisheries (ACPF) Chair, Annie Jarrett said that wild prawns caught in Australia’s oceans all have unique flavours, just like wine bears the marks of its growing region.

“Multiple wild prawn species are caught in fisheries here in Australia by Australians and for Australians. Taste matters to consumers. The unique flavours found in our wild prawns cannot be replicated and are to be celebrated,” expressed Jarrett.

“Consumers care where their food is from and the care behind its production. Australia’s prawn fishers also care about how prawns are brought to Australians. All Australian wild prawn fisheries are highly regulated for sustainability purposes and to ensure there will be wild prawns on the tables of future generations.

“Differentiating Australian Wild Prawns provides opportunity for the wild prawn industry, retail and food service to meet Australia’s interest in the story of their food.”

In partnership with Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, the ACPF is also investing in research and development projects1 that underpin the Taste the Wild brand.

Through these investments, the ACPF is leading the verification of Australian Wild Prawn provenance claims at retail with Curtin University and Source Certain. Random retail sampling testing has confirmed that 96 percent of prawns labelled Australian were in fact Australian – a great boost for consumer confidence.

The ACPF is also partnering with seafood industry consultancy Fishtales to engage with the food service to build the sector’s confidence in product provenance and ethical production claims.

“It is a proud moment for prawn fishers and businesses around Australia to call on consumers to ‘Taste the Wild’ and always ask for Australian Wild Prawns,” Jarrett concluded.
