New Zealand’s best-of-breed Ōra King Salmon was a menu highlight at the recent 10th annual charity dinner, Gastrofest. Ōra King Awards judge Geoff Scott joined some of New Zealand’s top chefs at Auckland’s St Matthew’s in the City for a decadent dinner to raise money for the Gut Cancer Foundation. Ōra King salmon appeared on the menu with Scott’s ‘jigsaw’ inspired salmon dish that signified the delicate nature of the human form and the connection between the stomach and overall health and well-being.
“Gut cancer affects over 5000 people in New Zealand each year and the mortality rates are high, there are increasing numbers of young people getting gut cancers – a lot of this is diet linked,” he explained. “Our overall health and well-being starts from the stomach, so it is critical that the food we ingest contains the essential nutrients we need. Ōra King salmon is packed full of nutrients including highly beneficial Omega 3, as well as being high in protein and an excellent source of essential vitamins.”
Funds raised will help fund vital cancer research and awareness to improve gastro-intestinal (gut) cancer survival rates, a cause dear to Scott’s heart.
“I’ve lost several close family friends to cancer – I see this as a natural culinary and opportune way to help. This is a very worthy charity and I’m super proud and humbled to be involved.”
