Phat Phillys Brings Philadelphia Classic to Auckland

A brand new eatery has opened, bringing Philadelphia’s taste sensation to the shores of New Zealand!

They launched fast - throwing open the doors a mere seven days after conjuring up the idea - they serve food fast, and they are fast becoming a crowd favourite!

Phat Philly’s in Morningside, Auckland is a cheeky, fast food joint already proving popular with locals and visitors alike. The eatery has been bootstrapped by four Morningside locals including Head Chef at Morningside’s legendary Crave, a cider maker at Morningside’s own Morningcider, and a designer and a wine judge who are themselves obsessed with a good steak, hot cheese and tasty food with an affordable price tag.

The fast food joint is serving Philly Cheese Steak to Auckland - a sandwich made from thinly sliced beefsteak and melted cheese in a long hoagie roll. The popular regional fast food has its roots in the US city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Think cheesy, dirty, and delicious!

Phat Philly’s has taken a kiwi favourite, the good ol’ steak and cheese pie, and ramped it up, throwing it into a baguette with some American diner vibes for good measure.

“Philly Cheese may have been born in Philly but it’s just been made a man in Morningside!” said co-owner, Tim Shallard.

The Phat Philly menu heroes the ‘Full Phat’ as its most popular Philly Cheese Steak with ‘Good Phat’ as its vegetarian sidekick. Insanely good ‘Phat Sticky’ and ‘Phat Hot’ crispy chicken wings are also talking points.

Try dunking your already cheesy rolls into another pot of hot cheese with the ‘cheese dunk’ and sample the classic Tater Tots and Slaw - lips to your hips!

Just 550m walk from Eden Park and its adjacent taverns, Phat Philly’s is the perfect way to soak up the beers on a night at the ruggers - and is also available to anyone in the delivery range on Uber Eats.
