MYSTERIOUS FIRE

Matakana’s Sawmill Brewery and Smoko Room were ravaged by a fire late Monday night. Just north of Auckland, Sawmill was ablaze when firefighters arrived at the scene just before 11 pm. As of 6:30 am Tuesday, the last crew was able to leave after monitoring the scene overnight.

On Sawmill’s Instagram page, they said, “Absolutely gutted to let you all know that there was a fire in our brewery last night. It spread throughout the office and services to the building, and there is damage to the brewery roof.”

“This, unfortunately, means the Brewery and Smoko Room will not be operating until further notice. However, we have an incredibly resilient team, and we are still supplying beer to our customers and will continue to do so.”

The post went on to say that further information will be given about the reopening when more time has passed for the assessment of the situation. “A huge thank you to our local volunteer firefighters who did an extraordinary job containing the fire. We know many of you well and are immensely grateful for how hard you worked last night in difficult conditions.”

Sawmill also disclosed their appreciation for the support that the community has shown through social media and love. The post ended, “But what is the Sawmill if not resourceful? We’ve got this.”
