Meet the Roaster | Darkstar Coffee

Originally hailing from Budapest, Roland Fige is the head roaster and production manager at Darkstar Coffee.

His upbringing was a culture filled with food and coffee. He said that meeting a friend would automatically mean going to a bar or restaurant, or if somebody came to your house, the coffee pot would be on standby. Coffee to Fige was a major part of the way he lived.

Darkstar Coffee is a family-owned and operated roastery in Perth, Western Australia. Over the past two decades, Darkstar has consistently produced high-quality roasted coffee that caters to the needs of happy customers. The team has grown to include industry experts and champion baristas.

Formally a project and sales manager for 15 years, Fige found his true calling in specialty coffee. He said his new career has brought him a newfound passion.

“It was a change I hadn’t anticipated, I enjoyed it so much, and here I am years later, still enjoying the challenges and opportunities it brings,” said Fige.

He joined the team at Darkstar Coffee three years ago, and has since learned the skill of roasting by training with others on the team. During this time, he has continued to expand his education through sample and production roasting, cuppings, and workshops held by specialist coffee associations. He added that his aim was to deliver consistency in every cup, so the customer knows what they get every time.

Darkside Coffee sells its roasted coffee to various cafes and restaurants, as well as selling various items of machinery, servicing materials, accessories, and a coffee training school service.

“Roasting is an art focused on perfection with every batch roasted, and I aim to deliver on that.”

He said that having its own cafe has been instrumental to the success of Darkstar Coffee in order to showcase the products they make on-site. He said that the ambition for Darkstar Coffee is for the world to know that they are dedicated to making the perfect roast.
