House of Dumplings

Every single dumpling from House of Dumplings is carefully handcrafted, just like every dumpling should be. Nature provides flavour in abundance, therefore House of Dumpling’s food is only flavoured with fresh herbs, spices and seasoning. You will NOT find any MSG, artificial colouring, flavouring or preservatives in their range.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

When Vicky Ha was working as a chef in various premises in Wellington, she would invite her chef mates over for dinner and make her Mum’s dumplings. There was nothing like them on the market, and her friends would later convince her to start making the dumplings commercially.

She then went off to the Gulf of Carpentaria in Australia and worked as a cook on a prawn trawler to save money to start up the House of Dumplings. At her first market stall at the City Market in Wellington, she spent 17 hours making her first lot of dumplings and was sold out within two hours.

What is the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

Our plant-based dumplings are New Zealand’s first vegan range in the market. Not only are they pre-steamed, which cuts cooking time for our customers. They are also all-natural, no colour or preservatives.

We are also the only brand that focuses on 100% NZ free-range meat. We also work with local producers whenever we can. We are also the only supermarket brand that handmake everything from scratch and are still operated by the founder. We pride ourselves on being the innovators and the experts of dumplings in Aotearoa.

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

Yes, we are looking at a lot of different angles. New products, new markets, and perhaps a new category.

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability?

We are in around 100 retail stores in New Zealand. Selected New World, Countdown, Moore Wilson, Farro Fresh, Huckleberry, Commonsense organic and many independent stores. We will be expanding to another 50 Countdown stores in a few weeks.
