The Fix & Fogg name comes from two characters in the classic 1873 adventure novel, Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne: Phileas Fogg and Detective Fix. Like the story, the idea of embarking on a great journey, taking risks and trying new things resonated with this nut butter business and you can get a taste for it in their unusual varieties.
What is your company background, how did you start the business?
My wife and I started Fix & Fogg six and a half years ago when we were expecting our first child. Previously both lawyers, we made the choice to leave behind the corporate life and dedicate our time and energy to creating something meaningful, sustainable, and delicious. We decided to make the best butters.
We love that we make every jar of Fix & Fogg from start to finish in our factory in Wellington. From designing our labels to our carefully blended peanut butter, we’re completely hands-on throughout the entire process. We think our award-winning butters are so popular because people can taste the difference in a product that’s handmade by humans who care about quality.
What is the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?
At Fix & Fogg we're big on flavour and innovation. We now have a whopping 12 different types of nut butter and a range of sizes. Without question, our Everything Butter has been the real stand out. Made with 8 different nuts and seeds, people just cannot get enough of this goodness-packed versatile spread. So much so that we've now introduced a bigger 500g jar which has been flying off the shelves.
Notably, we are also the only B Corp certified New Zealand owned food producer. B Corp certification is a global movement of people using business as a force for good that balances purpose and profit. This means our customers can feel proud to support our brand, and sets us apart from others on the market.
What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?
We have just made the big bold leap to expand into the USA. It's a brave new world for us but we're committed to taking our products, values and proud Kiwi story to the biggest, most competitive peanut butter market in the world. Don't worry, we're still working hard to keep our loyal New Zealand fans happy and have a heap of R&D going on behind the scenes too. So keep an eye out for lots of new deliciousness coming out this year!
Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability?
We are currently stocked in New World, Countdown, Pak’nSave and leading specialty stores. You can also purchase directly from our online store for shipping New Zealand wide. We are working really hard to expand the availability of our nut butters in New Zealand so they are available from the the bottom of the South to the top of the North and everywhere in between.
