DONOVANS

Donovans Chocolates was originally established in 1991 by Patrick Donovan who was taught by master confectioner Karl Pajo, the Russian fudge maker was renowned for his marvellous, creamy fudge. The techniques he taught Patrick are still used at Donovans today.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

“Patrick’s sons took over the family business in 2004 and the company became renowned for producing quality New Zealand chocolate made from premium ingredients in the heart of the Waikato. In 2011 another well-known Waikato family business – Prolife Foods (owned by Bernie and Kaye Crosby) acquired Donovans Chocolates. Since then the brand has been refreshed to reflect our core values of craftsmanship and quality and to stand out in store.”

What is the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

“The current Donovans range includes Chocolate Blocks, our Gifting Range, Fudges, Confectionery and our popular Chocolate Clusters. All the Donovans products are inspired by flavours that New Zealanders know and love (like Feijoa, Manuka, Hokey Pokey, Rocky Road) and all our products are made using only the finest quality ingredients.”

Has there been any recent company news?

“We recently launched Toasted Coconut Clusters into our popular Clusters range, for this product we have combined our premium 35% milk chocolate with toasted coconut thread to create this indulgent version of coconut rough. We also launch a limited edition Christmas range each year in October so keep an eye out for those in stores!”

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

“We are always keeping an eye out for new product ideas and flavours that New Zealanders will love!”

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability?

“Donovans Chocolates are currently available in selected supermarkets nationwide but we would love to see the full range available in all stores!”
