CLYDE RESTAURANT TAKES OUT TOP PRIZE

Iconic Clyde establishment Oliver’s Restaurant has won the top award in the annual Eat.Taste.Central awards for its 48-hour braised short beef rib. The dish, created by head chef James Waite, was served alongside a truffle mash, carrots, shallots and a Madeira jus.

Oliver’s owner David Ritchie was honoured to have won the award.

“I suspect that lots of people don’t expect to find such good cuisine in what might appear to be such out-of-the-way places, but as anyone who has explored further in Central Otago knows, we boast some great food and beverage combinations in this part of the world,” he said. “I’m very proud of our chef James and his team and Olivers’ reputation.”

Other winners included Alexandra’s Courthouse Café for its Lamb Thyme Burger, Chatto Creek Tavern’s Wagu Beef and Porter Pie and the Maniototo Café in Ranfurly for their Raw Black Forest Cheesecake. Last year’s winner, the Ancient Briton Hotel in Naesby, won the award for best beverage match for its Rope Tied Denver Leg Venison matched with Wild Earth 2015 Pinot Noir.
