Business Owners Angry at Lack of Compensation

After a meeting with Auckland mayor Phill Goff, businesses affected by the construction of the City Rail Link (CRL) are disappointed and angry.

Businesses in the Albert St area have spent more than a year living with construction noise, dust, sewer smells and shabby passageways to their stores as the Government pushes ahead with the upgrade of the CRL.

In the meeting, Goff noted that the responsibility for a solution was shared with the transport minister and the finance minister, which has frustrated affected owners.

Viv Beck, chief executive of Heart of the City, said it was appalling there had still been no progress on the issue.

Some owners have simply had to close up shop, including Antony Ariano who closed the doors of his Da Vinci's Italian Restaurant which he opened ten years ago.
