Antony Ariano has closed the doors of his Da Vinci's Italian Restaurant in central Auckland, which he opened ten years ago - yet another small business claimed by the $4.4 billion City Rail Link (CRL) construction.
The stress, both mental and financial, for small business owners in the way of the CRL has forced many closures, including renowned Mai Thai restaurant, and left others on the edge.
Ariano's business has been boxed in by the closure of the Victoria St and Albert St intersection for two years and surrounded by the smells, noises and dust from construction.
Ariano said small businesses are suffering from politicians turning a blind eye to compensation for disruption.
MP for Auckland Central Chloe Swarbrick is fighting for struggling small business owners and claimed civil leaders have a duty to address this issue.
