Own Masala in Tauranga has been named the best Indian restaurant in the country in this year’s Menulog Restaurant Awards. Owner Sita Argal has more than 20 years’ experience in hospitality, and opened the restaurant in 2014.
“After so long cooking and working in kitchens, I know what people want from a local family restaurant and that’s great service and tasty food,” he said. “We use a whole palette of spicy, sweet and hot flavours to create unfamiliar food that is both creative, enticing and caters to a wide range of customers.”
While there is no signature dish, Own Masala’s Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry, and Goat Curry are hugely popular.
“Being on the Menulog platform has helped me expand my business by providing access to a larger number of customers meaning more people get to taste our delicious food which is exactly what you want,” Sita said. “In this way Menulog is a natural extension of our business and helps make us grow and be profitable.”
