Ponsonby's latest eatery has introduced an afternoon and evening menu, offering a casual approach to fine dining.
From the minds of burger-joint Parade and popular pizza restaurant Rosalita’s, Bodega has rapidly become the latest hotspot along Ponsonby Road.
Having won over crowds for breakfast, Bodega is now open for business in the afternoon and evenings, having introduced a signature aperitivo and wine menu to celebrate.
One of Bodega’s most attractive qualities has been the level of customisation found on the menu. From made-to-order, deli-inspired sandwiches to breakfast rolls, and baked goods reminiscent of an Italian patisserie, Bodega’s loyal customer base keep coming back for more.
The venue’s outdoor areas have been described as the perfect place to enjoy a few drinks and a bite to eat while basking in the sun, and further plans are expected to be developed in the lead-up to summer. Its interior has a cozy atmosphere, designed to reflect a traditional deli found in New York.
The menu has been designed to offer affordable prices for high-quality food and beverages, so people could still enjoy the dining experience without paying an extreme bill. It will also cater to the void for central-city dining in the late afternoon.
From fresh focaccia bread served with butter and pickles, to house crisps, beef croquettes and charcoal chicken skewers, nothing on the menu is priced over $20. Customers can also choose their favourite tipple from a range of hand-selected wines, ice-cold beers and a number of Italian spritz-inspired beverages.
Since its opening a few months ago, Bodega has received adulation from the local Ponsonby community. With a nod to heritage, Bodega’s walls are frequented by subtle wooden accents, a deep colour palette, and old pictures.
Its opening was in contrast to two well-known Ponsonby Road restaurant closures, SPQR and Chapel Bar & Bistro. Both instances were due to internal economic reasons and the challenging climate for the hospitality industry.
