Alcohol is Essential?

While food cannot be delivered from restaurants and takeaway outlets under Alert Level 4, alcohol can, and according to one delivery company, demand has shot through the roof around the country.

Nick Foster of Delivereasy, which operates in 22 cities and centres across New Zealand and employs 1300 drivers, noted that orders started rising as soon as the lockdown announcement was made on Tuesday night.

Liquor stores took orders, prepared them, and they were then picked up for delivery by Delivereasy drivers. Demand was strong in Auckland, but it was on a similar scale to other centres around the country. Customers pay Delivereasy via an app which then deducts the delivery charge and pays liquor stores and restaurants.
