YOUNG WINEMAKER AWARDED

Mission Estate’s Alex Roper has been awarded the Hawke’s Bay Young Winemaker for 2016. The competition took place on July 1 in Taradale followed by dinner and contestants speeches at Mission Estate. Currently in its second year, the competition hopes to help young and enthusiastic winemakers build important relationships within the wine industry.

Congratulations are also in order for Tom Hindmarsh from Dry River in Martinborough who came second and Brad Frederickson from the Hawke’s Bay Wine Company who achieved third place.

A total of six contestants competed and all judges were impressed with their overall knowledge and skills as well as their passion for winemaking.

This regional competition is part of a national search for the next Young Winemaker of the Year and run in conjunction with Bragato. The National Final will take place on August 23 in Blenheim.
