THE FINAL STRAW

Starbucks in Japan is eliminating 200 million single-use plastic straws a year across 1500 stores which are switching to a paper-alternative.

This initiative is a part of the company’s target to eliminate more than 1 billion plastic straws per year across its 28,000 stores worldwide by 2020.

The paper straws will be available in January 2020, with the larger Frappuccino straws rolling out in May of 2020. The straw itself is made out of paper responsibly sourced by the Forest Stewardship Council. Each straw comes in a package that promotes sustainability.
