Pizza Hut is planning to open a franchise in Kaitaia on a turnkey basis. Restaurant Brands will be in Kaitaia at the end of October in order to meet potential franchisees. The company will design, build and set up a store ready for the franchise holder to begin trading.
Reaction to the news has been mixed, with some praising the opportunity but others claiming that it won’t help the town’s obesity problems, and will have negative impacts on locally-owned food outlets.
“We don’t need more food outlets,” said one user on social media. “Support the locals, generate money back into the community, not some big corporation out of town and overseas.”
Restaurant Brands signed a master franchise agreement with Yum! Brands earlier this year, meaning that Restaurant Brands will be responsible for day-to-day administration of Pizza Hut for the next decade.
