CBD REFRESHMENT

Nelson’s CBD is set to get a facelift with a host of new commercial tenants acquiring or moving into property in the last month. Properties along Bridge Street, Hardy Street, and Trafalgar Street are all to receive new owners or lessees from September.

On the corner of Collingwood and Hardy Streets, an Asian fusion restaurant will be replacing the Char Bar and Grill. The space has been rented by Asian Garden Hospitality who runs a collection of restaurants across the country.

Along with the restaurant development, several retailers are moving in throughout the city. “We are very quickly running out of spaces,” said Debbie Cade, Colliers commercial real estate agent. Additionally, while Nelson remains a popular destination come summertime, it’s winter tends to be quieter. Simon Duffy, Uniquely Nelson manager, said that there had been a noticeable change in positivity around Nelson this winter, however. “Normally come June, July, August people are grizzling, but we haven’t had that this year.”
