Wendy's expansion of restaurants in Australia is set to see over 200 openings nationwide within the next decade.
Wendy’s has unveiled its second store in Australia, a new immersive, flagship restaurant in Brisbane.
This follows the US chain’s introduction into the Australian market earlier in the year, opening in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. The new store, also in Queensland, will open in the centre of Brisbane City with a blue facade overlooking King George Square.
Corina Black, Chief Marketing Officer at Wendy’s ANZ, said the new flagship store will set the tone for the brand’s expansion in Australia, which so far consists of a pipeline of 200 restaurants nationwide within the next decade. The next wave of openings is set for 2026.
Abigail Pringle, Chief Development Officer of The Wendy's Company, said Australia was a strategic market for long-term growth for Wendy's.
“Flynn Restaurant Group has incredible experience in the restaurant space, and we are thrilled to expand our relationship with them. They have a strong leadership team, great culture, vast industry knowledge, success with our brand in the U.S., and we are confident that Flynn Restaurant Group is the right partner to unlock growth for Wendy's in Australia."
Following the positive reaction from Sydneysiders to a one-day pop-up event back in 2021, there had been overwhelming interest in launching the brand Down Under, and it was clear fans were ready for it to arrive in Australia.
"We couldn't be more excited about expanding our partnership with Wendy's. It is a tremendous brand with significant untapped potential outside of the U.S. and we think it is an especially great fit for Australia, given the savvy nature of the Australian consumer,” said Ron Bellamy, Chief Operating Officer at The Flynn Group.
“We look forward to expanding the brand in the market and in the process, redefining what Australians should expect from QSR."
Wendy’s franchises in New Zealand were bought by the Flynn Group in 2024, having been set up by Danny and Dianne Lendich in 1988.
