Wahlburgers One Step Closer to NZ

Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg is one step closing to bringing his brotherly burger chain to New Zealand after announcing Australia's first venue.

The Wahlburgers will open its first Australian store in Sydney before Christmas 2021.

Wahlburger is a casual dining restaurant and bar chain founded by Mark and his brothers Donnie and chef Paul Wahlberg.

Wahlberg's Australian business partner, Sam Mustaca, said plans were still on track to open a restaurant in Auckland and possibly another in Mount Maunganui.

The initial plan was to open in Auckland mid-this year, but it had been delayed by COVID-19.

Over the next five years, Wahlberg plans to open 19 restaurants in Australia, plus at least one in New Zealand.

The total restaurants will create over 500 jobs, said Mustaca.

The Auckland restaurant would host about 250 diners, he added, and the Mount Maunganui venue could be inside the United Cinema complex at Bayfair Shopping Centre.
