Uber Eats has enlisted the help of Kiwi Supermodel Rachel Hunter for its new Reach the Beach campaign.

Uber Eats has launched Reach the Beach, a new limited-time initiative designed to help Kiwis summon forgotten summer essentials to the sand at select city beach locations across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Available for two days this Valentine’s Day (Friday, February 14 and Saturda,y February 15), Uber Eats will help forgetful locals summon almost, almost anything to sandy locations across the North and South Islands.

The initiative was inspired by fresh research which shows that while almost eight in 10 (79 percent) Kiwis said they love the beach it often comes with an all too familiar problem: what to pack. Over half of surveyed Kiwis (52 percent) reported having left food and drinks at home because carrying them was too much of a hassle, with nearly two-thirds (64 percent) saying they have had a snack or beach essentials ‘emergency’.

What’s more, one in six people (17 percent) said they would rather go hungry than leave their perfect beach spot.

Uber Eats has enlisted local beach icon and former supermodel Rachel Hunter, who is back on home sand to relax with family and friends and promote beachside convenience as the official ambassador of the Reach the Beach initiative.

“Some of the biggest moments of my life have happened at the beach – from being scouted on Milford Beach to shooting a Sports Illustrated cover on the sand,” said Hunter.

“For me, the outdoor Kiwi lifestyle is all about enjoying moments with family and friends and making the most of our country’s stunning beaches. It’s great to know that even with busy lives, when we finally make it to the beach and realise we’ve forgotten an essential – whether it’s a snack, a magazine, some sunscreen or a mid-day ice block – there’s no need to worry. That’s the beauty of Uber Eats delivering right to the sand.”

Throughout the weekend, Uber Eats will also offer a $0 Delivery Fee on orders over $20 (excl. Fees)* from participating stores to select city beaches in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, as well as a host of towns with recognised “beaches” across New Zealand.

Interestingly, the research commissioned by Uber Eats found just under one in two kiwis (47 percent) believed that a coastline wasn’t essential for a location to qualify as a beach, but the majority agreed it must have sand (83 percent), with sea water (69 percent) and waves (56 percent) as the other key determining factors of a beach.

While people have different definitions of a beach, the Reach the Beach campaign is about making summer that little bit simpler by bringing convenience straight to where one in four Kiwis plan to be this Valentine’s Day – at the beach.

“We’ve all had those moments – running out of snacks, forgetting the bottled water, or not wanting to leave the sand for a milkshake. With extended delivery areas to take in sandy city locations and $0 Delivery Fees on orders over $20 from participating stores at key central beaches across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and in a host of coastal towns this weekend, all you’ll have to worry about this Valentine’s weekend is getting yourself to the beach and making sure any packaging is popped in the bin or taken home with you,” said General Manager of Uber Eats New Zealand Andy Bowie.
