Amid the global fuel crisis, Retail NZ has issued a reminder to businesses and customers to fuel what they need.
Retail NZ has reminded New Zealanders that there is plenty of fuel to go around if shoppers just buy what they need.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Finance Minister Nicola Willis have both assured the country that the Government is working to ensure appropriate supplies of fuel if the Iran conflict becomes prolonged, as well as looking at supporting households amidst rising petrol prices.
“We are reminding shoppers there is no need to panic, with our fuel partners assuring us there are adequate stocks of fuel in the country at the moment,” Retail NZ Chief Executive, Carolyn Young, said.
“We’re asking New Zealanders to just fuel what you need.”
Young said there is also plenty of product in the country in terms of household staples, with access to grocery items not impacted by the conflict in the Middle East.
“There is a good stock of everyday products in retail stores, while transport movements – both within the country and imports, are flowing freely. Retailers are also currently absorbing any increases in costs where they can,” Young added.
“We would also like to thank the Government for the work it is doing to shore up New Zealand’s fuel supply and create a plan to ensure our country continues to secure the fuel we need.”
