In Christchurch, a boutique hotel operating from the heritage-listed Victorian mansion, Eliza's Manor, has new owners who are preparing to open its restaurant next month.
Husband and wife James Sumner and Francesca Voza will operate the hotel and restaurant in the restored, repaired and revamped Eliza's Manor on Bealey Ave.
The manor is currently used as an eight-room boutique hotel, which Voza said she wanted to continue.
The in-hotel restaurant will be renamed Miro at the Manor and open to the public, not just hotel guests. It will offer the same breakfast and lunch menu as the Oxford Terrace Miro restaurant, already operated by Voza and Sumner. Miro at the Manor will also be open in the evening, serving a Canterbury-based tasting menu, said Voza.
Executive chef Liam Summers and head chef Cameron Woodhouse will operate between the two Miro restaurants.
Voza hopes to open the new restaurant in the second week of October.
While the pandemic hasn't been kind to the hospitality industry, Voza focused on catering to the local community.
Voza was drawn to Eliza's Manor because of its heritage. She and her husband like architecture and old buildings, she said.
The manor was built in 1861. It has been a children's home, school boarding house, maternity hospital, flat complex, and function venue throughout its history.
