Popular Delivery Service Shutdown

Popular restaurant booking platform, The Fork, has ceased its operations in Australia, calling it quits after almost 15 years of service.

The announcement was made via an email sent out to its customers, informing them that its days were numbered. In order to allow customers to use loyalty points, the last day of operations has been scheduled for March 31st, 2024.

The booking platform, previously known as Dimmi, said that it was a decision that was difficult to make and was not made lightly.

“This has been a cause of the significant impact the pandemic had on the global economy, particularly the hospitality industry,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

In its email, The Fork said that the Australian arm of its global operations was part of a reduction of its geographical footprint.

Dimmi, launched in 2009 by Australian technology entrepreneur Stevan Premutico, was sold to TripAdvisor in 2015 before its rebrand overhaul as The Fork in 2019.

The Fork is the latest platform of its kind to have ceased operations. Famously, competitor platform Providoor stopped accepting orders before its major relaunch with prolific chefs and food personalities. It is considered unlikely that The Fork will make a similar comeback.
