AUSTRALIA | As the dust settles on the Australian election, voters have also made their choice on whether pineapple belongs on pizza.
Pineapple lovers have officially declared a win after Australia voted to determine whether the tropical fruit belongs on pizza.
In a crazy coincidence, during the week of the Federal Election, Domino’s asked Aussies to vote for their pineapple-on-pizza preference in an anonymous Pinea-POLL with 76 percent of participants saying yes to the sweet pizza addition.
“Pineapple on pizza is like Rip and Beth from Yellowstone, a match made in heaven,” one campaigner said.
Other supporters believed its influence was much larger than anticipated.
“Pineapple on pizza isn't just a topping, it's a conversation starter, a cultural icon, and a delicious act of rebellion against boring food norms.”
To celebrate the landslide victory, Domino’s will keep its word and offer pineapple toppings for free for a day.
A post-Pinea-POLL analysis reveals those located closest to the golden shrine of The Big Pineapple were strongly represented, with Queenslanders accounting for the largest slice (40 percent) of the vote. This was followed by NSW (24 percent), which does have The Big Banana, but Domino’s confirmed this wasn’t a primary focus of its pizza topping selection.
However, both sides of the debate said one’s preference was such a Big Deal that Australia should consider adding an official pineapple screening process to everything from job interviews to relationships.
“People who don't like pineapple on pizza clearly have terrible taste and shouldn't be trusted,” one avid supporter claimed.
Some supporters said the decision had become personal.
“If a girl I was dating didn’t like pineapple on a pizza, I wouldn’t date them.”
One said that it belonged in smoothies, not sabotaging pepperoni.
“Mixing sweet and savoury like that is culinary betrayal.”
Others advocated for more extreme measures, suggesting that there was no reason customers should be given the option to remove it from a Hawaiian pizza.
Either way, the people have spoken. Domino’s said it was happy to have settled the debate once and for all.
