Mission Estate Receive Top Honour for Huchet Syrah

The Mission Estate Winery has been announced as the Best Luxury Package Design recipient at the 2023 Packwine Awards for its 2019 Huchet Syrah.  This has followed the two gold medals won by the vineyard at the prestigious International Wine Challenge and International Wine and Spirits Competition.

The Packwine Design Awards, now in its third year, is a highly anticipated event that recognises the best of the best product designs in the wine industry across Australia and New Zealand.

Winemaker at the Mission Estate, Paul Mooney, said that the vineyard was immensely proud of the continued achievements for its Huchet Syrah.

“This award not only applauds the dedication and expertise of our winemaking team, but the commitment and passion of our design team. Any award we receive reinforces Mission Estate Winery's position as a leader in New Zealand's wine industry, producing fine wine since 1851 and now award-winning design," said Mooney.

Six finalists were announced for the Best Luxury Package category, with the Mission Estate being one of only two New Zealand nominees. Designed by Sara Fraser at Sartoria Creative, the packaging required an elegant design solution that proudly honours the Mission Estate’s heritage and the premium price point of its top-tier wines.

Sara Fraser said that Huchet Wines represent the ultimate expression of winemaking.

“This premium range of wines are named in tribute and honour Brother Cyprian Huchet, who was New Zealand’s pioneering winemaker in 1871.”

The Huchet namesake and the iconic ethereal Angel’s wings are the focal point on the label design expression. The wings are a symbol of Br Cyprian and the devotion in the making of these wines. The label required impeccable craftsmanship in every detail to imbue classic timelessness and sophistication.

Print finishes and embellishments feature Sculpted 3D embossing on the angel wings, two foils (Pearl and Gold), a premium textured uncoated label stock and gloss high-build, requiring two passes and an uncompromising attention to detail on the printing press.
