Menu Inspiration | Happy Hour: Margarita

Globally, the Margarita is one of the most popular cocktails on the menu of any bar.

The famous tipple was invented in 1942 by Francisco “Pancho” Morales, a bartender working in a bar named “Tommy’s Place” in northern Mexico.

The tequila-based drink is recognisable for its famous pale-yellow colour, salt-covered glass rim, and occasionally a lime wedge. But this variation is largely known as the classic version, there are hundreds of variations using many varieties of fruit flavouring.

In 2020, it was reported that margarita consumption grew by 55 percent, and in 2008 it was evident in a survey conducted by Brown-Foreman that in America alone, more than 185,000 Margarita’s are sold every single hour.

Annually, International Margarita Day is celebrated on February 22. Nowadays, frozen Margaritas are becoming popular decade after decade, with the first frozen Margarita machine being built in 1971.

The taste sensation of tequila, triple sec, and lime juice has earned its place as one of the world's most loved cocktails.
