Meet The Barista | Charlotte Woodward, Moment Cafe

Charlotte Woodward is a 31-year-old Virgo who has been married for nearly seven years. She has been blessed with a beautiful son and two rescue dogs, whom she loves immensely. If given the chance, she would adopt many more.

“Outdoor activities and reading books are my favourite pastimes. Good food and coffee are my passion. I hold a qualification in personal training, and I'm currently studying nutrition,” said Woodward, barista at Moment Cafe.

Her career started when she was 16, and she walked around her small hometown handing out CVs. The woman who offered her a job at a café she sometimes visited with friends said she reminded her of herself when she was younger.

That job was where Woodward had her first coffee and learned the art of making coffee.

Coffee-making, conversing with people, and paying attention to every detail made it an enjoyable experience, and she loved to engage in banter and inquire about people's days.

“It was the beginning of a 15-year love affair. I never realised it was my career until I was deep into it.”

Over the past five years, Woodward has had the privilege of honing her skills and expanding her knowledge in coffee-making. She said that the menu at Moment Cafe was a testament to its commitment to quality and variety.

Moment Cafe offers a shaken brown sugar iced latte, a delightful blend of sweetness and savoury flavours that Woodward enjoys. Its freshly squeezed juices, made to order, range from classic orange to a specially formulated green juice designed to cure hangovers.

The food menu is equally enticing. It features the cafe’s signature smashed avocado with house-made beetroot relish and four variations of eggs Benedict served on house-made potato cakes.

For plant-based enthusiasts, the tofu scramble is a must-try. Most of its menu items are or can be gluten-free.

Woodward always starts her day with a long black, followed by an iced americano or oat piccolo for her second cup.

For her, the tamp, extraction, and pour are the most defining parts of coffee-making. The aroma, colour, and flavour create an embodied moment when you take your first sip.
