Spending his upbringing flying between New Zealand and Italy, Adrian Hoffmann always had a passion for food and coffee.
When the pandemic hit, he saw the lockdown as an opportunity to bring something positive to the community and pursue his dream of starting his own business. Not long after, Dedwood Deli was born.
Hoffmann has always been drawn to the art and science of coffee-making.
“There’s something magical about the process of transforming coffee beans into a delicious, aromatic beverage. Additionally, I love the social aspect of being a barista, especially connecting with customers and becoming a part of their daily routines."
Using high-quality and ethically-sourced coffee beans is crucial to making coffee at Dedwood Deli. Hoffmann exclusively uses Kokako organic coffee beans to provide customers with an exceptional experience.
In Hoffmann's opinion, a good coffee is all about having high-quality beans, consistency and an excellent barista.
"The skill of the barista in extracting the flavours and achieving a harmonious balance between acidity, sweetness and body, is essential."
To make Dedwood Deli stand out further, they also offer innovative sandwich options, which feature premium meat and hand-made sauces, and even focaccia bread for their Italian-style options. Hoffmann’s cousin from Italy recently join the Dedwood team, helping to level up their sandwiches.
The Ponsonby community plays an important role for Hoffmann and his team. Making a positive impact on people's lives is a key motivator for Dedwood Deli, whether that's through providing a perfectly crafted coffee or a delicious sandwich.
“I’d like to thank our brilliant, funny, weird, and wacky loyal customers for their support since we opened our doors.”
When Hoffman is not working at Dedwood Deli, he enjoys exploring the Auckland culinary scene, spending time outdoors hiking and biking, and participating in community events.
