Homeland to Close

Homeland

Well-respected New Zealand chef, Peter Gordon, has announced the likely closure of his flagship restaurant, Homeland.

The restaurant’s premises and wider surroundings have undergone a recent redevelopment process, which has been listed as the building owner’s decision not to renew Homeland’s lease.

Gordon said that it is likely the dining room will cease at the end of April, and the adjoining cooking school at the end of July. He said in the meantime, Homeland was open for business.

“Our staff are hugely impacted, and we ask for space while we consult with them and work out what is next for the Homeland project. Homeland’s purposes are not finished. The problem is premises,” said Gordon.

Since the restaurant was opened in 2020, Homeland has promoted the use of sustainable and local produce. Gordon, and his partner Alastair Carruthers, also built a food embassy to support New Zealand producers.

In 2022, Homeland was forced to shut down temporarily whilst the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown influenced the hospitality industry.

Further details of Homeland’s closure are yet to be released.
