GIWC Top 20 | Vigneti Romio Sangiovese Superiore Riserva DOC 2018

The Vigneti Romio Spumante Rosato Extra Dru DOC C6 NV and the Vigneti Romio Sangiovese Superiore Riserva DOC 2018 are two GIWC top 20 winners from the Caviro Group, an Italian winegrowers cooperative.

Founded in 1996, Caviro consists of numerous partners that contribute to high-quality wine production. Grapes are grown in almost every region of Italy, with over one million vineyards under cultivation. It has economic, social and environmental sustainability at the heart of its practices. The Vigneti Romio project aims to improve wine quality, with Caviro’s best Romagna winemakers and most representative grape varieties. Each bottle hopes to tell the ancient story of Romagna.

The Sangiovese Superiore Riserva is the very soul of the Romagna territory, which is a result of the mixed terrain, varying altitudes and exposures. It is a territorial interpretation of Romagna land, and particularly the great clay soils. It is warm, dynamic and energetic just like the people in the area.

Tasting notes are ripe black cherries on the nose with a delicious hint of spice. With red berry flavours on the palate and fine tannins, this wine is well balanced with a long finish. The grapes are harvested from the end of September to mid-October, producing flavours that allow the wine to age for up to ten years when in the right conditions. It is best paired with savoury grilled or spit-roasted red meat dishes and mature cheeses.

This wine is dynamic and transversal, attracting both young consumers that are not used to the aggressive tannins of traditional Sangiovese and also the more experienced drinker. Its complex aromatic profile is perfect for slow and careful tasting.
