AUSTRALIA | Catering provider dnata has been chosen as the inaugural culinary provider for Australia's newest international airport.

The tourism industry has welcomed Western Sydney International Airport’s (WSI) announcement of a partnership with dnata Catering & Retail.

The leading inflight caterer is investing AUD 17 million to build an advanced inflight catering centre within WSI, which will see dnata produce up to three million meals annually for domestic and international airlines. This partnership marks another significant milestone in the airport’s journey towards becoming a major global hub.

Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) CEO Margy Osmond said the partnership with dnata marked a milestone for the Airport as it prepares to open in the near future.

“This is a fantastic step forward for WSI and the broader Australian aviation industry. With the 24-hour precinct scheduled to open next year, this partnership with dnata marks another milestone for the airport,” said Osmond.

Located within the airport’s Cargo Precinct, dnata’s new facility is expected to open in late 2026, and has been designed to incorporate the latest sustainable innovations and technologies, including energy-efficient equipment, a recycled water system and a waste treatment plant.

The partnership agreement has also allowed for the expansion of the facility to meet increasing demand as airline traffic grows, which will further cement Western Sydney International Airport’s importance as a key infrastructure asset to the city of Sydney, New South Wales, and Australia as a whole.

Osmond added the partnership with dnata and Western Sydney International Airport coincided with key priorities for both parties, as well as promoted a sustainable future for the local tourism industry.

“WSI’s consistent progress is an exciting indicator of the future of air travel in Sydney, and Australia. The airport’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence will make it an important contributor to aviation and tourism, as well as local business,” she said.

“As the airport prepares to welcome its first passengers in 2026, deals like this signal a new era for air travel in Sydney, and a significant boost to the Australian visitor economy.”
