CHRISTCHURCH CLOSURE

A restaurant and bar at Christchurch’s Memorial Returned and Services Association (RSA) are closing due to financial hardship.

Armagh Street’s Trenches was initially opened around four years ago as part of the new $6.5 million premises.

“The hospitality sector nationally and globally is doing it tough—here in Christchurch, we’ve had the added challenge of the ongoing, significant effects of the earthquakes, including a population decline,” said Pete Dawson, Association president.

The closure of Trenches represents a wider decline in the general involvement in clubs throughout New Zealand.
